2015 Fledgling Press Cover Design Competition – the Edinburgh College of Art
Feb 15th 2015
I’ve just been to a fascinating visit to the Edinburgh College of Art, with my publisher Clare Cain and Art lecturer Lucy Roscoe.
This is the fifth year in a row that Fledgling Press have run a cover design competition with the ECA, where second year undergraduates compete to design a cover for a Fledgling publication as part of their degree course.
Lucy Roscoe of the ECA introduced us to the class, and we had a fascinating chat about the possibilities of the cover. The ECA students have previously produced excellent work for Fledgling Press, the results of which can be found at fledglingpess.co.uk.
Clare talked through the format of the cover, the sizes, spine and bar codes, author photo & bio, and space for blurbs. My tasks was to introduce the book, give a brief summary of what the story is about, and to field any questions – and there were some excellent questions on the character and genre.
We go back next week for the results, and I’m really looking forward to this.
